Machida-city

Wow, blogging is actually hard to keep up with. Hopefully it's just Orientation being really tiring and full on and hopefully when I start classes I get into a really good routine. Today was day 3 of Orientation and there was a few exploring adventures done. My Orientation group went to Machida city, Machida is the main city where my uni is located in.

First off, I went to uni by myself... like a big girl. I left my dorm at 8.25a.m for a Survival Orientation and I got to uni at 8.40a.m. So early I don't even know why, freaking keen bean. This Survival Orientation went for three hours and it was pretty much our American advisor telling us how to survive in Japan, simple etiquette we should adhere to, how to cope with culture shock and also EARTHQUAKES. The best form of etiquette that I found interesting was when we catch trains, boys at all times need to show both hands. I guess it's taboo to have them in their pockets or anywhere more suspicious...

There was a two hour break after the orientation so me and Eleanor went to have lunch. We tried to join the Hawaii group but there was so many of them that we just kind of drifted and did our own thing. They ended up going to the same place as we did... awkward. Haha The steakhouse we went to is just near uni and it was mega cheap! And this is my first cooked meal since getting here and it tasted so good... especially hot rice. The bill only came to $22, extremely cheap! I don't know what I got.. I looked at a picture and it looked delicious (I need to avoid doing this). I got some chicken and I think it was garlic... I think... Also at the end of the video, it's just me challenging my leader to say "squirrel" LOL

Here are my photos for the day:

So after lunch, we had some time to kill so being good tourists we explored the area a bit. Need to get use to the place anyway since we will be at uni nearly everyday. We ended up finding a small mall which you can see in my video.

Im in sock heaven...
Finally bought an umbrella. They were good quality and only about $5. There was so much pastel and kawaii going on I opted for the boring grey one. I just can't with the cutesy umbrella.

Tim Tam for $5??

So we ended back at uni so we can meet our group to finally head off to Machida city.

Somewhere apart of my uni. So cultured.
Here are some of international friends. They are all great people. I've made good friends with one and she's from Hawaii... she is also Filo. Funny thing was when I asked her if she was Filo she looked so damn confused. Apparently in Hawaii or America they don't call themselves Filo... but Filp. Okay weirdos. So in return I taught her the first form of Australian slang "ceebs" and she's in love.

Minjin, a korean exchange student. She is so lovely.

Leslie from Marylands. Somewhere in the east coast of America...
Jamie from Hawaii. Kamusta Flip

So now it is Machida city. It is actually huge. This place is all considered suburban... but I don't know where they're coming from cause it's very urban to me. I just can't imagine Tokyo... which I'll tackle in two weeks. I'm too scared to even go further than two stops where I'm from.

We were left to explore Machida on our own. It was myself and Eleanor with our two Hawaii friends Jamie and Justine.

Stopped by a cafe since we were all so tired. "Nanna's Green Tea"
We finally ate out for dinner instead of having convenience food. We tried this Ramen place near our dorm and we didn't realise it was a vending machine or machine that you had to choose your meal. Tragedy when there's no english and we're just sitting there figuring it out. I opted to copy whatever the Japanese person chose before me. Equals success hahaha.

Devil Machine

Dinner! It was cold noodles dipped in hot broth. I still don't know what I ate...
And I bought a hair dryer today. I thought I wasn't going to get one but I look like a Filo freshie with wet hair every time I leave my dorm. Oh and I also bought another pair of socks haha.

And that was my day!
Hope you guys liked it.
Love G
